Whether to sing better or to be able to speak more freely in public, or to be more comfortable with it, it is natural that you want to educate and improve your voice. You want to feel that it has more power, clarity and that your voice responds yes or yes, without depending on whether you have a great day or whether your emotions affect you more than you want. I give you here the 2 keys to return to a healthy and more beautiful voice that you can trust. And if you go for it with motivation, your voice can improve a lot in a matter of days.
The advice may sound simple, but it is not easy to apply: we are almost forced to pull strings a little or a lot at first if we have not educated the voice. This point is essential to take care of the voice and stop pulling the neck is a sine qua non-condition to improve the quality of your voice. It is the first stage to heal your voice and in many cases to rescue it:
If you pull on the throat when singing, you are taking advantage of between 20% and 40% of your vocal potential. If you are like this, you will probably have inflamed vocal cords from time to time. Also, learning “singing techniques” will have a relevant result, since you will improve that 30% of voice to make it sound a little better. Here we prefer to return YOUR voice first and with it then teach you simple and very effective techniques to take advantage of that good voice that you do have in there.
To make it clearer, I will give you an easy to understand image: in song, the strings are like the steering wheel of a car, which serves to give the direction. And the engine of your voice is your body to give power, quality and structure to the voice. If you want to accelerate and shake the wheel, you will end with a sprain and you will not advance anymore. The same with the voice: if you want to pull strings, you end up irritated, hoarse and the sound closes.
To start removing tension up there, in the area of the shoulders, neck, neck and jaws, you can follow these tips to clarify the voice:
Very little we do this exercise in class little is somewhat arduous, but so from a distance, it should help you. Raise the 2 arms and leave them above, well behind, palms towards the sky. Lean back slightly, from the plexus if your lower back is tender, or from the waist, if you are in perfect lumbar health (see photo below)
Once this is done, take air and take it out through your mouth, with a sharp SSS sound, until you run out of air. Wait like this without air, in apnea, as long as you can. If you tremble, it is great: they are tensions accumulated above that finally dissolve and that energy returns where it touches, that is to say at your base. When you can’t take any more … you take a breath and feel your breath. You can also try speaking or singing directly after taking that air and you will probably hear yourself different.
Another very favorable and smoother exercise to free your jaws and improve the quality of your voice is to leave your “dead” tongue in the back of your mouth. This way, you can start moving your lower jaw from one side to the other, slowly, like rocking a cradle: the cradle would be your jaw and the baby your tongue! If you have that area charged and you do it right after a few seconds, the first yawns come.
These exercises are very positive to improve and educate the voice and can already release inner things and energies: do not go over and do it in the afternoon/evening if you want to have calm and peaceful dreams. Having a restful sleep is as important as tuning your voice and singing well.
